I will start by stating that I have the DVD Boxset for Season 1 of SGU and as such I have an extended version of the Pilot episodes. As such I am going to be reviewing the extended version of Air with all 3 parts as one episode, unlike the original Syfy (America), Space (Canada) and Sky1 (United Kingdom) Broadcasts of parts one and two and then a week later part three. On the Syfy broadcast I know that parts one and two were shown as one episode and the Sky1 Broadcast they were shown as 2 separate episodes but shown back to back.

Air Part 3 – 103

Kino and Stargate on Sand Planet

The episode opens with the Kino on the Planet and we then see the Stargate.  The team the starts to arrive and the Gate shuts down 1st Lt. Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith) gets Dr Jeremy Franklin (Mark Burgess) to dial back to make sure that they can. Dr Andrea Palmer (Christina Schild) notices that the sand looks like Gypsum which is an indicates that what they need is on the planet,  The sand dissolved but it isn’t useful for CO2 scrubbing. that is a shame as it is covered in sand. They move out across the planet.

Destiny – Added Scene –  Colonel Everett Young (Louis Ferreira) is looking for Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque) He finds 2nd Lt. Vanessa James (Julia Benson) standing in the corridor, he asks her if she has seen Chloe and James tells him that she is till on the observation deck, Young then asks if James knew how Chloe was and then James goes off on one, saying how her family might as well be dead seeing as they are “Stuck in a galaxy that only God knows about”, Young tells he to pull it together.  Young then finds her and tries to make her feel better. Young mentions the Communication stones and Chloe wants to go and tell her mother.

Earth – Washington D.C. – The Pentagon –  Communication lab – Colonel David Telford is sitting at the stones, he has been there since  Dr Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) made contact in Air Part 2.  Young swaps with Telford, and requests that Dr Mehta (Sandy Sidhu) use a stone as well so that Chloe can swap with her. On Destiny, in Young’s body Telford is on the floor, due to the injuries that young sustained in Air part 1, 1st Lt. Tamara “TJ” Johansen is looking after him, at this time Dr Mehta is next to useless as she has no idea what is going on.

Earth – Chloe and Young are in Lt. General Jack O’Neill’s (Richard Dean Anderson) office. O’Neill is saying that the knew Chloe’s father and that the sod some of his favorite arguments with him, he tell her that Major Green (Mar Andersons) will escort her to see her mother and he asks Chloe to give her his condolences. Young fills in O’Neill about the problems with Destiny, and Young requests that every one should have the chance to say goodbye to their family.

Planet – the team has had no luck as yet. They are still looking but there is nothing promising. Eli Wallace (David Blue) make a reference to Planet of the Apes, he says that for a second he thought he saw the Statue of Liberty sticking out of the sand, he then quotes ”Damn you, Damn you all to hell.” This element relieves the tension of their failure a little.  (In the Fandemonium book Air by James Swallow there is reference to other Sci-Fi franchises

The Doctor (David Tennant) and Lady Christina de Souza (Michelle Ryan)

I liked the reference to the Doctor Who special “Planet of the Dead” in the book as I am a big Doctor Who fan also.

The groups splitting up

Scott suggests that they break into 2 groups, Scot is going with Rush and MSgt. Ronald Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) and he sends Eli with Franklin, Curtis (Bradley Stryker) and Palmer. Eli and Franklin are opposed to this idea, Eli wants to stay together where as Franklin has given up and wants to go back to the Gate. Rush is all for the idea as it means that they are able to cover more ground.  Each group goes in a different direction Eli’s group goes “West” and Scott’s goes “East”.

Earth – Chloe(in Dr Mehta’s body) is going to see her mother. Green tells her to wait in the car whilst he fills her mother in on what is going on.  Chloe’s Mother (Anna Galvin) runs to the car on hearing that Chloe is there to see her, when she discovers that it the is in a different body she recoils. Chloe fills he mother in on what is going on and that her father is dead and that he died to save the crew of Destiny, her mother breaks down on hearing this news.

Destiny – TJ is showing Telford and Dr Mehta around the ship, they go to the Gateroom and the gate shuts down. Adam Brody (Peter Kelamis) is working in the Gateroom and is perplexed by the use of the stones. He fills Telford in on the goings on on the planet and then Telford orders him to keep communications open with the planet. Lisa Park (Jennifer Spence) informs him on the power issues and that it is a drain on resources. There is about 9 hours before Destiny jumps back to FTL. Telford is in pain due to Young’s injuries, he wants something for the pain.

Planet – Scott’s team –  Still no luck finding the Calcite, Rush wants to slow down as he is finding it hard to keep up and he is not wanting to die in the planet. Scott sees something moving in the sand, a Dust Devil, he dismisses it and thy move on. We then see the Dust Devil move towards the water that Rush discarded for the test.

Destiny – TJ gives Telford, what he thinks is painkillers, and he then passes out, she gave him a sedative that they are low on. she did it so that young can come back to a body that still works. Dr Mehta is opposed to her doing that and saying that she is out of line, TJ corrects her by saying that she is the senior medical officer, TJ just leaves Telford and Dr Mehta in the room where Telford is out cold.

Planet – they are still walking, Scott is preoccupied, probably with what he saw earlier, Rush stops to test. Extended scene – Palmer has tested the sand again, still no luck. Curtis and Franklin are working on the Kino remote/dialing device, Eli tells than that there is no luck and are moving on, they have other ideas, they want to go to one of the other planets in range, they don’t trust Rush. Palmer is also with the idea of Franklin’s and Curtis’, Franklin wants the Kino and Eli wont give it to him, until Curtis aims his gun at him, Eli claims that this is mutiny, Curtis also tell Eli that he can tell Scott if he wants as his Radio isn’t working, they all head back towards the gate. Rush gives Scott his canteen of water, Rush is going to head back to the gate and Scott orders Greer to go with him, Eli then radios in and then Scott tells Greer to stop him is they can.

Earth – Extended Scene – Chloe is talking to her mother. in a wide shot we see Chloe on the couch with her mother and then in the reflection in the table we see Dr Mehth in Chloe’s place. Then Green shows up and says that Chloe will have to go in a short time. Chloe’s Mother Orders Green to get her home otherwise she will go public with all of what she knows.

Planet – Scott is walking by himself, he sees the Dust Devil again and he follows it. He pours a small amount of water onto the sand and the Dust Devil comes over and appears to drink it. Where the Dust Devil was the sand starts to move away and then a face is reveled, Scott recoils in fear and shock and the face is then gone. Is Scott seeing things due to the heat? Greer and Rush are nearly bask at the gate, they are arguing about their personal lives, about being poor in their past, they start fighting and the roll down a dune, Rush wants water and Greer wont give him any, Greer then thresher Rush with a gun. Back at the Gate Curtis Palmer and Franklin have dialed a planet, the atmosphere is breathable, Eli tries to stop them but Curtis and Palmer walk through. there is then a shot from a gun, Greer shot at the ramp to stop Franklin from walking through the gate. Franklin tries to go through the gate again, Rush tells Greer to shoot him, Greer dose and Franklin falls to the ground and the gate shuts down. it is Half time there is only 6 Hours till Destiny jumps.

Eli Wallace (David Blue)

Scott is still walking and he is following one of the Dust Devils and we see a Priest behind him he is the man who Scott saw in the sand, Scott is talking to the priest, he seems to be someone from his past. Greer is going to find Scott, he tells Rush to get Franklin back to the ship and he gives Eli a gun, Eli thinks that this is cool, Greer also tells Eli to wait for him.

Destiny – Young comes too and comments on feeling Drugged, TJ tells him that he was, Young is now using a Gun as a crutch. Rush comes back with Franklin and tells them that Greer shot him, He then asks for water and Sgt. Hunter Riley (Haig Sutherland) hives rush his Canteen.

Planet – Scott is still walking, Just, he takes his Gun off and he back pack. he collapses and in the Mirage of the heat we see a Cross in the sand, we then see a much younger Scott (about 16) in a church Talking to the Priest, Scott is upset, he has Sinned. Eli has dialed the planet that Curtis and Palmer went to, her is trying co contact them via radio, with no luck, something has happened to them. Back in the church we find out that Scott got a girl pregnant and he is questioning his faith, the priest dissolved into sand and back on the planet a Dust Devil is helping Scott, it erupts water and wakes Scott up, Scott has found the Lake bed, he has found the Calcite but he has very little time to get back.  James and a team come through the gate and James has a Kino for Eli, She asks which way and Eli points her. Scott is still walking with a bag full of the Calcite, Greer is running to find him. on Destiny they are trying to find a solution and are working on the processing node. TJ is helping Franklin and is seen removing the bullet from his solder.  The Air on Destiny is getting really thin now, young is waiting for the team to get back. Scott is exhausted and collapses, Greer finds him and motivates him to carry on.  The time is running out, only 3 minutes, Eli dials in and sends James through, Eli stays on the planet and uses the kino to look for them, he sees them and there is now only 60 seconds left, Rush tells Eli to put his arm in the Event Horizon, Eli reluctantly does it and it gives them the time they need as there is a safety protocol, they did it, they got back. Destiny then jumps into FTL.

They put the Lyme in the processing node  and Air starts to circulate again. Over the last few minutes of the episode is a piece of contemporary music, “Breathe” by Alexi Murdoch. we next see Scott in his room and he is then joined by Chloe. Scott tells her about his parents and how the died in a car crash when he was 4 and the priest raised him until he was 16 because the priest drank himself to death.

The shot pulls out of the window and to the exterior of Destiny, and there is a ship attached and it is not of Ancient design it detaches from the hull. What was it? Whose is it? Why was it there?

This part was a great conclusion to the pilot and it was the first time that they have had a 3 part pilot. This episode was all about finding a solution to the problem. We also learn a great deal about the characters during the course of this part and it left us with some questions that hopefully will be answered over the course of the season.

Air Part 2 – 102

Destiny in FTL

The episode starts with a shot of the ship in FTL (Faster Than Light) and we join the crew taking stock of what they have . We are the given our 1st extended scene, Camille Wray (Ming-Na) approaches Senator Armstrong (Christopher McDonald) and tries to reassure him as she is the leading IOA (International Oversight Advisory) representative on the ship and in return he dose the same as she is only in Human Resources.  Then Senator Armstrong talks to 1st Lt. Matthew Scott about the Life Support and using the Stargate to get back to earth. Scott then breaks the group into teams of 3 to search the ship. Scott goes with 2nd Lt.  Vanessa James (Julia Benson) and Sgt. Hunter Riley (Haig Sutherland) , Scott acts like he has no idea who James is. Dr Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) finds the case that Colonel Everett Young (Louis Ferreira) bought through the gate with him, he then takes it with him. What is he up to?

we see rush going through the corridors and we have an Added Scene – Rush goes into the control interface room and we see Adam Brody (Peter Kelamis) ,  Dr Lisa Park (Jennifer Spence) and Eli Wallace (David Blue) working. Rush asks for progress, he doesn’t get any, only the facts that he already had. Rush rephrases the question looking for “Good News” and Eli thinks he has worked out the menu system on the computers. Rush asks him to look for a Schematic/Map of the ship. Eli jokingly says “Google Spaceship”, which was a nice touch. Eli asks if Rush has any food in the bag that he is carrying, as he is starving, Rush doesn’t and tells Eli to keep working, Eli asks where he is going and Rush says to find the bathroom.

Communication Terminal and Stones

Rush is then seek wandering around again, he finds a compartment and opens the bag and the case Revealing 5 Communication stones and an earth made communication terminal. he activates the Terminal and places a stone on to it, we are back on earth and Dr Bill Lee (Bill Dow) is sitting in a chair with a stone on an identical looking terminal, he is waiting for the crew to make contact. It is nice to see Dr Lee in SGU as it calls back to both SG1 and Atlantis. Rush swaps with Dr lee.Added Scene – Earth – Chief Mst. Sgt. Walter Harriman (Gary Jones) informs Lt. General Jack O’Neill that they have made communication and Rush is in the communication lab. O’Neil goes to meet him and Rush fills him in on what has happened and that Rush took the opportunity to dial the 9 Chevron address and we find out the SGC dialing computer classification for Icarus, P4X-351. O’Neill tells Rush that he is to get them home.

Back on the ship Scott, James and Riley are searching the ship.  Scott tries to apologize for earlier (when he acted as though he didn’t know her).

Added Scene –  MSgt. Ronald Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) is searching the ship with Dr Jeremy Franklin (Mark Burgess) and another person (un-named), Franklin is concerned that thee ship is inhabited, Greer says that the life support was off till they got here. Franklin mentions aliens that don’t breath O2.

Back in the control interface room Eli has found a Map of the ship, Scott radios in for Rush, Eli answered saying that rush is in the bathroom if he found it. Scott wants a bulkhead door opened, and he dint want Eli to look for rush. Scott tries to open the door manually but it wont budge, whilst doing thei the Map on Eli’s console finds them, but the door is showing as red (Not a good sign). Scott asks Eli to open it, When he dose the whole corridor turns red, and we see that there is a Breach in the Hull and the shield is not helping to seal the damage. This is a good plot device as at the start of the previous part we see shielded areas across the entire length of the hull, They are loosing what little Air they have.  Eli manages to close the bulkhead and Rush turns up and he takes the radio and asks everyone to go to the gateroom.

In the gateroom Rush informs them about the Communication stones, and tells then that he has used them to contact Earth. Rush also tells them that he has been put in charge by General O’Neill. Senator Armstrong wants to use the stones to talk to O’Neill but Rush wont let him. Senator Armstrong then collapses and they discover that he is badly bruised and bleeding internally (Due to his blood thinners). Rush then tells 1st Lt. Tamara “TJ” Johansen (Alaina Huffman) to find somewhere for the wounded and tells the rest of the crew to find quarters and stray there until asked to do something useful. The crew don’t take to that well and then Scott intervenes. Scott is in-charge of the SG Personnel as Young put him in-charge and he tells then to move out and go to the quarters. Scott has Rush’s back, for now.

The crew are taking stock of the supplies that they bought through from Icarus. There isn’t that much, this will mean that living on the ship will be a Day-to-Day issue. They only have Power Bars and powdered food (probably protein powder) Dale Volker (Patrick Gilmore) find seeds and they also find some paper. Wray confronts Greer about him being in detention on Icarus and what to do about it now. Greer reacts but is restrained by Riley. He is then radioed by Scott to look for exposed areas of the ship. wee see Sgt. Spencer (Josh Blacker) taking a large number of Power Bars, this is suspicious behavior for a Marine, what is he up to?

CO2 Processing Node

Scott is being directed by Rush somewhere but Scott sees something on the ship and he follows it. We next see TJ tending to Col. Young, he has been unconscious since the beginning of the 1st part and he is just coming back into consciousness.  TJ fills him in on what is happening, The life support and being on a ship and that Rush says that he is in charge. Young cant move his legs, he cant get up. Scott is still following the flying object and finds Eli. Eli found the compartment and he is controlling it, It is a Flying Camera,  Eli called it a Kino (After the Russian word for Movie/Film). Eli and Scott then start walking down the corridors, they are followed by a Kino. Eli is saying that this is his 2nd ship in as many days and that he was beamed out of his house. Eli also has a Headache (a sign that they are running out of Air). Young has Neuropraxia, temporary paralysis following a concussive injury. TJ was supposed to have left Icarus weeks ago for Seattle (Training to be an EMT), Young wants to see Rush and he sends TJ to get him. Scott and Eli find Rush he is amazed by the Kino and likes Eli’s idea to use than to check the ship. Rush informs Scott that the CO2 scrubbers/Processing nodes are failing and he sends Scott out to check on on, Scott calls for Greer to come with him. Scott and Greer get to the Gateroom and find the grate that the Node is be hind, they open it and it is not good, it is caked in the used up residue of the compound that was in it.

Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque)is seeing to her dad, he also wakes up and wants to know what is going on, Chloe id unaware as she is looking after him and he sends her out and talks his pills so he can’t do any more harm to himself.

Greer Joins up with Jame and Franklin and continue searching the ship. Brody is checking the processing node. they only have a couple of hours if they cant seal the parts of the ship that are venting O2 and if they can it will gain them a day or so.  Rush notes that there was Medical grade Soda-lime in the manifest and that never made it to the ship. They need to find something else that can take CO2 from the air (Calcium carbonate/Lithium hydroxide). Scott wants Rush to dial back to earth before it is an issue.

Added Scene – Greer,James and Franklin find what appears to be a Mess. Franklin notes that there is plates for food and James notes that there isn’t any food. Greer finds what appears to be a Water tap. he activates it but only a couple of drops come out of it.

Eli using the Kino, finds a Shuttle and he Radios Greer, Rush says that there are 2 Shuttles.  Greer finds the Shuttle and he cant close the door, it is broken. Franklin goes inside and finds that there is a hole on the window of the shuttle. Rush and Eli go down to the shuttle to try to close the door. Franklin notes that the shield isn’t 100% effective and rush says that the ship is badly damaged and it cant cope with it. Rush closes the Shuttle door and it starts to vent the air out and he then opens it again, this is a problem as it means that someone has to close it from the inside, a Death sentence.

Young is starting to be able to move his feet. TJ is filling him in on what is going on. Chloe is doing the same with her dad, it appears to be the same conversation. Franklin is trying to fix the mechanics that closes the damaged door. he is not having any luck. Eli says that “Bad air is better than no air” and rush says that someone has to go in and close it.

Eli Wallace (David Blue)

Eli starts to document his symptoms into a Kino, Scott finds this annoying am makes Eli stop. They need to decide who is going to have to sacrifice themselves. TJ gives Rush a list of people on the ship and has marked those that are injured.

Young volunteers to do it as he is badly injured, Scott wont lett him and then Chloe turns up and informs them that her dad is missing. He is on his way to the Shuttle and is pointing a gun at greer. The Senator wants to do it as he doesn’t have that much long left and Greer notices this and lets him. Scott and Chloe are rushing to try and stop him but  but the don’t make it in time. Senator Armstrong has already seals himself in and he saves the rest of the crew. Chloe is upset and she runs and attacks Rush, she blames him for her fathers death, who then consoles her that he wouldn’t of been his choice and that the Icarus project was one that he believed in and that “this ship could be the most important discovery mankind has made since the Stargate it-self.”

Young is up and walking, he informs Wray that Senator Armstrong is dead. he gets Wray to help keep the moral positive. Scott joins Chloe on the Observation Deck, he wants to know about her father, Chloe tells him all about her father, Scott leaves her to go back to the Search.

Eli is laying on a bench in the Control Interface Room, Rush is wanting to know what he is doing, Eli says that he has just watched a man die. Rush is working on the problems of the ship and he has found the name of the ship, Destiny.  The Ancients were never on Destiny, the sent it out unmanned. Young makes his way to the Gateroom, Riley has fond the 8 symbol address for earth and Young orders him to start dialing. Extended Scene – In the Command Interface Room Eli wants to know who the Lucian Alliance is, Rush tells him about them. An allarm sounds and rush notices that someone is dialing the Gate.

The Stargate on Destiny

Eli, Brody, Park and Rush go to the Gateroom, Eli picks up a Kino, they find that Young is up and about and dialing the gate. Eli deploys the Kino and starts recording. Rush says that the ship is low on power, he hasn’t been able to access the main systems and “this ship simply doesn’t have the capability to dial Earth.” Destiny drops out of FTL, The Gate starts to dial automaticaly. There are Stargates out here?

We learn about the Seed Ships that were sent out before destiny. The gate activates and there is a Wormhole yo a planet. Young goes to step through even though he has no idea what is in the other side. Rush has told Destiny that they need supplies and this is the address that will solve the Air issue. Eli has the idea to use the Kino as a MALP, Rush thinks that that is the intended use for the device. Park is receiving the telemetry back from the Kino and the planet has a breathable atmosphere and it has very little CO2, this is a good sign that what the need is on this planet. They have a time limit of 12 hours 15 Minutes and 40 Seconds to find what they need on the planet before Destiny jumps back to FTL.

They pick a team to go through the gate: Scott, Greer, Curtis (Bradley Stryker), Dr Andrea Palmer (Christina Schild), Franklin and Rush. Eli volunteers to go as well, Rush doesn’t want him to go and neither does Scott but Young lets him. Young tells Scott to “keep and eye on Rush.”

Extended Scene – In the Gateroom the team has geared up, Eli and Scott are standing in-front of the Gate and Eli asks if scot thinks there will be any dinosaurs. Scot says that anything is possible.  Young tells them to move out and Scott walks through the Gate.

In the Extended Version the scene has been cut down as it goes straight into the 3rd part. but the bit that is missing is:

The rest of the team files through the gate (Eli then Greer, Franklin Curtis and Palmer) and Rush is the last to go through, he pauses and looks at young, Young nods and then he steps through.

This was a good second part to the Pilot, this episode was all about taking stock and checking what they had brought through with them. The sacrifice of Senator Armstrong is a strong beat as in the past on stargate they have never left someone behind or let then do that, Apart for Dr Peter Grodin (Craig Veroni)Back in Stargate Atlantis Season 1 episode The Siege Part one, be he was trapped and under-fire so there was nothing that could be done. but it was a good episode and showing that it is much different from its predecessors.

Air Part 1 – 101

Stargate Universe: SGU

The episode starts with a shot of a star field in deep space. There is then a visual effect and a ship drops out of some form of Hyperspace/FTL )Faster Than Light) jump. The ship moves closer to the camera and we can start to see damage on it as there a force fields covering the hull damage. We pass into the interior of the ship and start moving through the corridors, the ship seams to be waking up, lights are starting to turn on and systems start initiating, we then get to what appears to be the Gate room, it looks like an old gate, and judging by the state of the exterior of the ship and the look of the ship and systems the gate will predate that of its counterparts in the Milky Way Galaxy and the gate that was found in Antarctica (Stargate SG1, Season 1 Episode 7 “Solitudes” ), the gate activates and a lone person is thrown into the gateroom, this is one 1st Lt. Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith). Shortly after Scott arrives onto the ship boxes and people are thrown from the gate and there is a lot of panic and confusion ans they where expecting to go back to earth. There is also a comedic element to this as Eli Wallace (David Blue) is seen checking that he is still in one piece and is subsequently hit by a box that is thrown from the gate, I found this to be a nice touch to this scene. Near the end of the scene we see Dr Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) clime a set of steps to a balcony and look over all the people that have arrives as though he is some kind of King or authority figure. Shortly after this there is a build up of energy in the Stargate, it sounds like something bad is about to happen, then Colonel Everett Young (Louis Ferreira)is thrown clear across the Gateroom, Scott rushes over too him, Young is  injured, badly, and puts Lt. Scott in charge.  Young has a bad head wound, there was a considerable amount of blood on Scott hand. There is a large amount of panic in the room, no one knows much and the only one that knows anything, Dr Rush, is missing, Scott takes Eli to look for him. The ship then Jumps back into FTL and we get a Great line form Master Sgt. Ronald Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) “what in the hell was that?” the delivery of this line is what sells it.

The opening of the episode starts approximately a third of the way through the story, we don’t know what has happened to them, we know that something happened the other end as all of the people on the ship are covered in dust and debris. There is also a high amount of panic and fear in the people that have boarded the ship. It is a clever feature starting part way through and then going back and showing what has happened before this like this episode has done, by doing this you are thrown straight into the action and into the deep end like the characters as you have no idea what has just happened to them.

Prometheus (Stargate Worlds)

We are then taken to the start of the story, Back on earth, we see Eli playing a game on his computer and Video chatting with a Friend discussing the game, Little known fact the game that Eli is playing, in the episode it is called Prometheus (A call back to the 1st space ship created and seen in Season 6 of SG1 in the episode “Prometheus”) but what he is actually playing is a Preview of The Stargate MMORPG Stargate worlds (wasn’t released as Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment went Bankrupt before its release.) and the puzzle that Eli says that he has solved is the “Dakara Weapons Puzzle” (this is a call back to SG1 again but its 8th season episode Reckoning Part 2). Eli inputs the data to channel the device to use the core of the planet as the power source and the level then resets and Eli’s friend signs off and Eli gives up. The following morning there is a knock at the door and Eli discovers Lt. General Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) on the door step. O’Neill then signals and he is then joined by Dr Rush. Eli is informed that they are there because he “solved” the Dakara Weapons Puzzle and to do so he had to solve a millennia old Mathematical proof that was written in a defferant Language. Eli is then given a Non disclosure Agreement and he asks what happens if he doesn’t Sign and O’Neill says that “we’ll beam you up to our space ship”. this line is funny and proves not to be and empty threat as Eli is transported up to the U.S.S George Hammond, Samantha Carter’s (Amanda Tapping) Ship, and is then taken to a Planet 21 Light Years away. Eli’s mother is not well and the Air Force is going to pay for her medical care whilst he is away. The Hammond leaves orbit and jumps into Hyper space. Eli is put into a room and given hours of videos to watch, each video is hosted by Dr Daniel Jackson (Michel Shanks) and each one is on a specific topic, like Icarus and the 9th Chevron, The stargate its self, hyperspace and a number of others. On the way to Icarus Eli is talking to his mother (Glynis Davies) this is an emotional scene. Eli is then in the canteen on the Hammond and he then meats Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque). and we learn that Eli was at MIT.

Back on the ship Eli notices the Ancient writing on a door, he then opens the door and finds Rush on an observation deck and they discover that they are on a ship. In the gate room an Air Vent shuts down and eli notes that the air is getting then.

We Next see Young in a memory talking to a woman who is his Wife, Young then collapses and he is then back on the ship and he has a seizure. 1st Lt. Tamara ”TJ” Johansen (Alaina Huffman) is tending to him.

The Beam Down

The Hammond Drops out of Hyperspace at Icarus and we then see 1st Lt. Scott in a Broom closet having Sex with 2nd Lt. Vanessa James (Julia Benson). This was a controversial scene as it was (to my knowledge) the 1st Sex scene is the whole of the Stargate franchise, also Part 1 of Air was broadcast from 8PM to 9PM on sky1 it was before the watershed I believe that it was actually cut out of the UK version until the post-watershed repeats. This scene was needed to show that it is a much more Adult themed show. Scott is then called away by Young as the Hammond had arrived early. Eli, Chloe, Rush and  Senator Alan Armstrong ( Christopher McDonald) are beamed down to the surface and are greeted by Colonel Young. Eli takes a picture of a Rail Gun. (this is an important thing to note as it shows Eli’s need to capture/document what is happening as we will see later on in the episode and it future episodes.)  They are then taken into the base and we see the 1st of the added/Extended Scenes. This one was an added one and they are walking through the corridors and the senator comments that they could save money by turning the heat down and Young says that the money id going to the cooling of the base and rush says that the heat is generated by the energy in the core of the planet. Eli and Scott are discussing  the claustrophobic conditions of the base and Eli asks why they cant do this on the surface, and Scott says that it is too dangerous that there are Dinosaurs on the planet, this is a Joke and it was a comical place to put one. (I will state that I have read the Fandemonium book Air by James Swallow and this was one of the extra scenes in that and I did have a little chuckle when I read that.) We are then in the Icarus Gateroom and Eli asks why they came by ship because Icarus has a Stargate, and the Gate on Icarus has been Modified to only dial out and it is too dangerous. Eli Learns that the proof that he solved Rush has been trying to solve for months. Senator Armstrong is being introduced to the personnel at Icarus and the last one to be introduced is Colonel Davis Telford (Lou Diamond Philips) . Rush then attempts to dial the 9Chevron address with Eli’s Solution and they get further than the previous attempts but it is a non successful attempt also. Rush thinks that it is Eli’s solution that is the problem, Eli cant believe that Rush is pinning the blame onto him.

We then go back to the ship and the power then comes back on. Scott is trying to inform the people on the ship about what is going on, no one is paying him any attention and then Scott results to shouting, he is then given the attention that he was looking for and gives them all the facts. Senator Armstrong wants to get everyone back to earth via the Stargate but the life support issue takes priority. Scott tells them that “We are on a ship but we have no idea where we are in relation to Earth.” He then takes Adam Brody (Peter Kelamis) and Lisa Park (Jennifer Spence) with him to Dr Rush, Scott tells everyone to Stay put.

Back on Icarus Rush and Eli are working on the Proof, Rush is still using Whiteboards and Eli comments on this by mentioning the amount of computers, Rush then goes to start again and wipes the proof off of the white board and Eli starts saying “Save”, this is in my opinion a funny line as it shows that it cant be saved (in the electronic seance which is what Eli is going for) because Rush is determined to start over. Young takes Eli to the Mess for dinner, Rush is opposed to this but Young is adamant.

In the mess there is an extended scene, it starts with Eli talking about Pizza (Four Cheese) and then Chloe asks Telford what it is like going through the Stargate, He explains and then describes going through the atmosphere in an F-302, Chloe then asks if it is possibly for here to be taken up in one, then Eli asks about the 9chevron address and Telford says that “The Ancients built the gates with 9 chevrons, it got to go somewhere” Next to Eli at the table is Dr. Sonja Damji (Agam Darshi (Kate Freelander in Sanctuary) she is only seen in this episode. Rush is still working of the Proof and has started again, he is getting frustrated, he then goes to the Kitchen to see what Eli is upto, Chloe thinks that Eli will solve the problem and Eli calls himself “Math-boy” a nickname that he would later regret giving himself. Senator Armstrong announces a Toast and Eli thinks its about you, his reaction to being told that its not is priceless, he reminds me of myself a little in that moment as that is how I would react in that situation. Chloe is enbaressed by the toast. Ruch goes to his quarters and starts playing some music, he then takes out a picture of himself with a woman, his late wife Gloria Rush (Louise Lombard (She only appears in the photo in this episode but she is in the episode “Human”)). the combination of the music and the photo makes Rush cry, this is an important beat, it shows that he dose have a kind and compassionate side. During the toast Chloe starts to dunk, and then interrupts her farther. then there is a dull “Boom” and the base shakes.  There is a second but much louder and Young announces that the base is under attack.

Back on the ship Greer and Scott are running to a compartment where Rush and Eli are arguing about the Life Support, Eli thinks that Rush is going to kill them, Greer instinctively raises his gun and aims at Rush. Icarus – Greer is in Detention, Young releases him and tells him to take his anger out on the people attacking the base. We see 3 Ha’Tak Ships in orbit of Icarus and they are attacking the planet. The Hammond positions herself between them and the plannet and we hear Rush Ask Carter who it is and asks is it the Lucian Alliance (A call back to a number of SG1 episodes) Carter believes that it is the Alliance even though they didn’t identify themselves. Telford is in a F-302 and is going to defend the base. Ship – Rush still wants to bush the button and Scott orders Greer to Lower his weapon, Greer dose and Rush pushes the button, It did nothing, Rush then walks away.

We then see a scene back on Icarus, befor the attack between TJ and Camile Wray (Ming Na) the IOA (International Oversight Advisory) Representative on Icarus. They are discussing TJ leaving for a Scholarship.

The Alliance is decending on Icarus and the Base opens fire. Sgt. Hunter Riley (Haig Sutherland)  informs Rush that there is a build up of energy in the core.  Rush wants to dial the 9th chevron in a last ditch attempt, This shows that he is determined. he informs Eli that the bombardment could overload the core and the planet could explode. Eli thinks that it is not a power issue but is the address.  Telford os having trouble holding them back. A death-glider is hit and is on a colision course with the base, Young orders Riley to dial earth. the entrance is hit by the glider seconds after Young is inside, this seams a little too convenient and Young should have been more badly injured buy this. Eli and Rush are then discussing the Address and Eli says that the Address might be a code as the Symbols on the gate are those seen from Earth, so the Point of Origin needs to be earth. Rush makes Rily move from the dialing computer and he aborts the dial to earth.  there is alot of panic in the corridors and the Non-com personnell are being escorted to the gate room. the roof collapses traping Senator armstrong. Extended scene – Greer is seen cariying Dr Sims (Jim K. Chan) and he gives Sims to TJ, she is only a medic, Sims was teh Senior Medical officer on Icarus, he has a bad neck wound, and looks to be losing alot of blood. Greer then bumps into Young and they are discussing a Pull back, Greer is against this idea and wants to carry on fighting, Young then orders him to help Scott with the cave in. Young then sees TJ trying to save Sims.  Young makes her leave him as he is too far gone for her to save.  Rush is dialing the 9chevron address with the Earth Point of Origin, the Gate activates and there is massive build up of energy in the planet, Carter recalls her fighters for an evacuation. Eli informs Young that they didn’t dial earth but the 9 chevron address, Young is annoyed at this but Eli says that “It can’t be worse than here can it?” as the gate cant be closed down. Young tels wevery one to stay put and wait, he then leaves them.

Holographic Star Map of The Ships Journey

On the ship Rush pulls up a visual log of the ships Journey. they mote that is started on Earth and then left the Galaxy, Brody notes that it went through Pegasus (the home of Atlantis) and we see it pass through more and more Galaxy’s, the ship has been on a very long journey.  Scott asked where they are, and Rush replied ”Several Billion light years from home.”

Icarus- Scott is trying to clear the rubble. Greer and young arrive with C-4. Young orders Scott to lead the Evacuation and to make sure that they take as much of the Expedition gear as possible as that aren’t going back to Earth.  Scott tells everyone to follow on a 3 count, he then walks through the gate and everyone follows with the equipment. Greer detonates the C-4 and they save the trapped people. it is a nice touch that Eli holds his breath before entering the gate. Young cant contact the Hammond, She has either gone or there is too much interfearance. every one is through the gate and Young id Getting a Box from the left expadition gear. Young is the last to go through the gate. As he is running there is an explosion and he is thrown through the gate. we then see the Planet explode taking out the Ha’Tak ships.

Destruction of Icarus

Earth – Washington D.C. – O’Neill is informs by Chief Mst Sgt. Walter Harriman (Gary Jones) that Carter is on the line. Carter tells O’Neill that the planet was destroyed along with the enemy ships. Carter has 12 casualties and there is 80+ MIA (Missing in Action). She asks how many made it through to Earth, O’Neill informs her that none did. They wonder where they went as the Gate was open for 6 Minutes.

This was a great 1st part to the pilot. There was the right balance of action and mystery that keeps you going, The jumping for the post-evacuation of Icarus and the pre-evacuation was a good plot device and you get to see all of the story and you have to watch to keep up and for it to make scene. In this part we a re introduced to the Characters and they are  put in jeopardy, On the ship they are running out of (Like the title indicates) Air but on Icarus they were under attack.

Doctor Who

The 11th Doctors TARDIS

So last week the Mid-Season finale of season 6 of Doctor who was aired on BBC One (A Good Man Goes to War).

Going into the episode I knew two things:

1. We would find out who River Song is.
2. The Doctor would rescue Amy Pond.

The End of June and Beginning of July

So I am going to watch Glee Live on the 26th of June at the O2. I have never been to the O2, but I am really looking forward to it.

On the 9th July I am going to London Film and Comic Con at Earls Court 2. I am also really looking forward to this as there are a number of Actors/Actresses that I would love to meet there from the many shows that I have enjoyed over the years.

Reading

I recently Finished reading  Stargate Atlantis: Book #10 Nightfall, By James Swallow. This was a really good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have just started reading Stargate Atlantis: Book #17, Legacy Series book 2, The Lost, By Jo Graham & Amy Griswold. this is good so far but I am only a few chapters in.

I think that that is everything. I am going to sign off now.

Back in January I turned 20 and in the last post I mentioned that I got a new phone, one thing that I didn’t mention is that I got a Hand Signed poster from the 2009 Stargate Convention held in Vancouver in Canada, and it is signed by none other than Michel Shanks (Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1)

I need to get a Frame for it so that it wont get damaged and so that it can hang on my wall with the picture I got for Christmas.

Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming

Over the last few weeks I have been reading the first book in the Stargate Atlantis Legacy Series from Fandemonium. As it suggests it is set after the events of Season 5 episode 20 ‘Enemy at the Gate’ of Stargate Atlantis. There was a film planned to continue the story of Stargate Atlantis called ‘Stargate: Extinction’ but due to the financial trouble that MGM have been in it has been shelved Indefinitely, Hear is a link to the story over at GateWorld. This is a Great way to continue the show and I am really looking forward to the next book in the Series ‘The Lost’.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome has started filming in Vancouver which is good news and I am interested in where this show is going to go as it is following a teenage Bill ‘Husker’ Adama (Luke Pasqualino) on-board the Galactica and his commanding officer Coker Fasjovik (Ben Cotton). As it is filmed like Sanctuary, mostly on Green Screen, it is set to look good as they are using scans of the old Galactica set and modified them so that the ship looks Brand New rather than falling apart.

"You Are Hear."

In December I won a T-Shirt from @SyFy. As it was posted so close to Christmas and it was coming from New York I only got it at the beginning of the month. I have to say that it is worth the wait though as it is one of my new Favorite t-shirts. Its odd seeing as I have started to opt for Shirt and Ties more now.

In other news I have joined LoveFilm.com. I was thinking about joining for a while but I never had the time to do it but the other week they had people in the Pentagon in Chatham. They had a Deal going for 2 months for the price of one so I am paying £10 for 2 months worth of unlimited rentals which is pretty good I have to say.

(I like Glee)

On Monday I got a new pair of Glasses, I was happy with the choice and I had had them for all of 2 hours and the arm fell off. That is just my luck that is but I didn’t let it get to me, as I am with SpecSavers I just went back up and they replaced them with a new pare for me. However, the frames that I had originally chosen were discontinued and so I had to chose a different set and i had to wait for the lenses to be mad and I got them yesterday. So far there has been no problems with them.

For my 20th Birthday I got a phone from my Mum (well she payed for half of it and the rest came from Birthday and Christmas money and the trade in of my old phone). I got the LG Optimus (GT540), it is an Android phone and I have to say I have liked it since I saw the adverts for it last year. I did have my eyes on the iPhone 3Gs but I have to say that this has been a less expensive choice for something that is one of the biggest rivals of the iPhone. (I think this is the case seeing as Microsoft have teamed up with Nokia due to their phones not doing so well in the market compared to the iPhone and Android phones.)

(Lets do the Time Warp again)

So New Years eve at 5 to midnight I remembered that I had not Scheduled a post for Midnight, I have been a little busy since the 1st so I have just got round to doing this post.

This year is going to be a pain as I am still looking for a job and after 6 months of looking already I am a little bored with doing nothing other than looking.

Well I guess we should catch up:

Christmas

Christmas day was fun. I was up at 10:00 and I was picked up by my Uncle about half hour later.  When we got to my Mums it wasn’t long before we were opening presents. Just before they were all handed out I was handed my 6 month old Brother and it was so fun as I helped him open his presents before I opened mine.

For Christmas I was given a 1TB External Hard Drive, Season 1 of SGU, Season 5 of lost, Season 3 and 4.0 of Battlestar Galactica, season 5 of CSI:NY, Mock the Week – Too Hot for TV 3, teh soundtracks to seasons 1, 2 and 5 of Lost, a Shirt, an SGU 2011 Calender, Dalek cuff-links, a Doctor Who – The Doctor Who Files (collectors Edition) book, a Wallet, a set of ink Cartreges and a Framed Stargate Signed photo signed by  Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michel Shanks, Christopher Judge and Corin Nemec.

Most of my gifts that I got are practical as I have started using the ink Cartreges in my printer, the Calender is up and I have been wearing the shirt and using the Wallet and the External Hard Drive.

My Birthday is a week away (16/01/2011) and I am looking forward as I am turning 20.

I should hopefully be bloging (or trying to that is) atleast once a week.

Tomorrow I am at my Mums but what I am blogging about started the other week.

lets go back:

13th December

I applied for a job at a new Tesco store in Sittingbourne. I wasn’t expecting to hear back but i did later on that day and I was invited to an interview.

15th December

I dressed in my Sute, Ironicly it came form Tesco its self, and went to Sittingbourne for the interview. It was a group interview so there was three people including me. I felt that I did well during it as the year before at college I did a mock job interview and it was smiler to that.

16th December

I received another phone call from Tesco and I had Passed the interview but was informed that there was a large volume of people that had applied for the jobs and they needed to further reduce the applicants so I was invited for a Work Trial in the Tesco Metro in Rainham.

20th December

Attended the work trial, this went well, 1st I had to fill in a questionnaire about my health, then I was on the shop floor facing shelves and restocking shelves. Once that was done I was taken back upstairs and them filled in another form about hours and was told that I would hear back if I had gotten the job or not.

21st December -23rd December

Each day cam and went with no communication from Tesco, this was annoying as I was told that I would know by the 22nd.

Today

A letter had arrived this morning from Tesco telling me that I had not been successful. The letter was dayed yesterday.

I am rather livid that I received this letter today but if it had been the way that I was told it was going to be that after the interview I would have the job or not I would have had a job for the new year.

So to sum up:

• still have no job
• i’m Livid
• and my Christmas has started off on a bad note

i hope that everyone has a better start to there christmas

So hear is my question: why is it that whenever there is a small amount of snow the whole county goes MENTAL?

As soon as it was even hinted at that it was going to snow a number of schools and colleges closed straight away, yet when I was in school I had to suffer through the day whilst it was snowing and this was only 2003/04 and it was in the middle of a 2 day Blizzard and we had to go in.

Now my plans for the weekend are currently on hold as the Trains in the South East are up the spout so as I am unable to travel any ware until the snow clears up I can get to Sittingbourne from Gillingham but the line between Sittingbourne ans Sheerness-On-Sea is closed and has a Replacement bus service (The three feared words of all train users). I do hope that the weather improves so that I can travel on Friday.
